As some of you may have noticed on the crowdfunding video, I sing a verse of The Four Marys, filmed in the ruins of Cathcart Castle, near Court Knowe, where Mary was said to have looked out onto the Battle of Langside in 1568. I had always wondered about the origin of this song, which is, of course, not from Mary Stuart’s letters and poetry. Reading about it on the website of the Marie Stuart (Mary Queen of Scots) Society this song appears to be a combination of two stories from different periods in history.
